•  The RRC- Regional Radio Communications Conference which was held in Geneva, Switzerland in 2006 set the 17TH of July 2015 as the deadline for all countries to have moved from analogue to digital migration. Analogue technology in Kenya is getting obsolete with time not to mention it is quite expensive to maintain. So its important for everyone to note that its all over the world.

Digital Migration Deadline.

 The Court of Appeal pushed the digital migration deadline to the 30th of September and ordered Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK) to issue media owners with digital broadcasting license.
 The three-Judge bench made a ruling in favour of media houses KTN,CITIZEN and NTV.

The majority of Kenyan viewers are currently receiving what is known as analogue TV signals. These are inferior to what digital TV signals can offer in terms of quality of the picture, sound and interactivity. For the consumer to enjoy this new digital signal, they must upgrade their analogue based TV set with a converter known as the set-top box (STB). This STB is very similar, but not the same as the DSTV,ZUKU decoder you would get for your Pay-TV services. The STB would allow you to watch your regular “Free-to-Air” channels from NTV, Citizen, KTN, KBC, K24 - without any obligation to pay monthly subscription fee.

The Set Top Box (STB) which will be used to receive the digital signal also has the capability to interface with devices such as a cell phone, memory card or internet modem. This will provide viewers with access to many more services and information.

High Definition Television is the premium version of digital television, offering picture and sound quality which is much better than today's analog television

Electronic Program Guides (EPGs)

Electronic Programme Guides (EPGs) are a feature of digital television broadcasting that come fitted in the Set Top Box. An Electronic Program Guide (EPGs) can be used by viewers to navigate between channels, identify the currently screening program and the next program ('now and next') on each channel

Better utilization of frequencies

A digital signal carries much more data than an analogue signal. Therefore, more than one channel of television programs can be broadcast at the same time.

Reprieve over TV switch-off date

The appeal court extended the orders suspending the switch-off date as the case goes on. The hearing continues on Monday next week.
